Gary Myburgh SC is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). He holds the degrees BA.LLB. He has been in legal practice since 1983, joined the bar in 1992 and took silk in 2004. Prior to joining the bar he practised as a director the firm Bowman Gilfillan. His practice is exclusively commercial. A large part of his practice concerns matters
relating to the engineering and construction industries and. The balance of his practice comprises general commercial work and aspects of administrative law - in particular matters pertaining to procurement, planning and environmental law and municipal law. He also has experience in matters involving mining activities. Gary has extensive experience in the law and practice of arbitration and ADR. He is accredited as a third party neutral with AFSA and the Association of Arbitrators (SA) and has, at various times, served as the Western Cape chairperson of both of those organisations. He regularly sits as a third party neutral - most often as an arbitrator; however he also accepts briefs to act as an adjudicator or mediator. Gary has acted as a judge of the High Court of South Africa on a number of occasions. He has also appeared in a number of reported cases. Gary currently practices partly in Johannesburg and partly in Cape Town but only keeps chambers in Johannesburg. He routinely appears in courts and arbitrations all over the country. He also has worked in England as well as a number of European countries.
